AI Mirrors Our World But Its Opinions Are Mere Reflections
From search engine queries to banking apps, AI integrations are being used daily by hundreds of millions of people. Adoption has been rapid and widespread, and in many ways, deservedly so. These are highly competent systems. But as reliance grows, so do the philosophical and social consequences of how these systems are designed.
One such consequence is now unavoidable: AI systems increasingly sound like they have opinions. Whose opinions are they? Why do they appear in the first place? These aren’t hypothetical questions. This is already happening.
And when AI appears to have opinions, it creates echo chambers, limits nuance, and fosters misplaced trust. The problem isn’t that AI leans left or right.
